                                  OLÉ

The L-36 was designed in 1953 by C. William Lapworth.  Bill Lapworth is perhaps best remembered for the fiberglass Cal-40, the breakthrough design that won the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit in 1974 and continued to win major races for decades thereafter.  The forerunner of the Cal-40 was Lapworth’s L-36 which won the first Victoria – Maui race in 1965.

Olé was built in Costa Mesa, California in 1960 and is hull #63 out of 72, according to L-36.com.  Just why the number 7 was held in reserve for her we’ve never learned.
